Living the Okavango

Central Kalahari

&...

A river...

A river that runs out into the Kalahari Desert. The overpowering spectacle of the Okavango Delta. Lagoons, rushes, islets and sand are home to millions of birds and animals. The dazzling colours of the vegetation and the sky reflect in the placid waters, creating scenery of extraordinary beauty.

The expanses of papyrus...

The expanses of papyrus turn gold, and the splashes of a lechwe leaping in the water are like flames in the sunsets as the mokoro slide silently along the narrow canals.
Not far away, the acacias of the Moremi reserve house yet more animals.

The strong branches...

Many owls are visible even by day, some up to a meter tall. From the strong leafless braches often hang spotted tails with white tips: they are leopards that love the solitude and peace. They let the breeze that rarely reaches the ground flow over them high in the trees, from where they nonchalantly spot their prey.

The plains of Savute...

The plains of Savute are arid savannah. Here one often encounters big cats hidden in the tangled shrubs. Beyond, there is the Chobe River, where every night millions of animals come to quench their thirst.
